Relaxed waterproofing works in summer - this is how it works

Moisture is a risk for every house. A professional exterior waterproofing is required in order to protect buildings reliably from the weather conditions. However, high temperatures during waterproofing works are a challenge even for experienced craftsmen.

1. You can't do it without waterproofing

Principle: splash water, rising damp, non-pressure water or pressure water are not allowed to penetrate in the building structure. Professional waterproofing is therefore the be-all and end-all.

For the long-term protection of houses from moisture in the long-term, the critical transition area of the earth-contacting parts and the socket part of the facade base must be waterproofed just as carefully as the building basement itself. For many years, reactive waterproofing systems, such as weber.tec Superflex D 24 have proven themselves for many years. With the bitumen-free thick-layer coating, buildings can not only be reliably protected against moisture, but also against harmful radon gas.

2. Waterproofing with high temperatures

In midsummer temperatures, the work on the construction site demands a lot from skilled workers. At temperatures around 30 degrees, the working time of reactive setting thick-layer coatings is shortened. The high temperatures cause the material components to react more quickly, so the mixed products in the bucket are set faster. If this results in time pressure on the construction site, errors in execution are not uncommon. This is especially true for details, such as connections, joints and penetrations.

3. Intelligent way for extending pot life

The weather can be tricked by a so-called pot-life retarder. As its name suggests, the product supplement delays the pot life or working time of the mixed material. The material remains smooth for longer and is easy to apply. Thus, even at +30 °C, surfaces and detail points can be properly waterproofed and in an easy-going manner without rush.

What is the meaning of pot life?

The pot life is the period of time in which mixed materials, like waterproofing products must be applied.

Since the components of such products are usually mixed in their packaging, they must be processed "out of the pot" within this period of time. The ambient temperature has a great influence on the pot life.

4. How the pot life retarder works

The pot life retarder weber flextime is best adapted to the reactive thick-layer coating weber.tec Superflex D 24. It is easy to dispense and uncomplicated to use.

How does it work exactly? First, the liquid component of the reactive waterproofing coating weber.tec Superflex D 24 is emptied in the mixing container. Then shake the liquid-coloured pot life retarder well, press the required amount into the dosing head and pour it onto the liquid component in the container. Next, mix the two pre-said components well, add the powder component and mix homogeneously. Done! In this way, the thick-layer coating can be applied even at +30 °C for up to 90 minutes without hectic and without a loss of quality.

5. Combinable in many ways

The pot life retarder is suitable for various reactive waterproofing coatings and adhesives. For example, weber flextime extends the working time of weber.tec Superflex D 24 as well as weber.tec Superflex D 2. A combination with the waterproofing, tile adhesive and de-coupling system weber.xerm 844 and the universal waterproofing weber Anschlussdicht is also possible. Due to the extended pot life, the waterproofing works can be carried out reliably and stress-free even at high temperatures. This makes the work much easier and thus also makes the summer pleasant on the construction site.
