Innovative lightweight plaster supports enhances insulating performance of brickwork

Residential area Meckelhof II

Residential area Meckelhof II, Freiburg

For fulfilling the requirements of the current German Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV 2014), it would have been necessary to use 40 cm-thick bricks in such residential buildings with a traditional render.

By using the lightweight render weber.dur 142 HLZ, the wall construction of 36.5 cm-thick bricks with a thermal conductivity of 0.10 W/mK achieved a U-value of 0.24 W/mK and the building thus met the standard EnEV standards for energy-efficient houses.
