Renovation of stone render in the Berlin State Library

Berlin State Library

The Berlin State Library has been undergoing extensive renovation at its location Unter den Linden since 2004. From a construction point of view, the execution of the numerous stone render surfaces was particularly interesting. The team of K. Rogge Spezialbau GmbH began by analyzing the original recipe of the historic building and using our building materials to visually combine old and new surfaces. For substrate preparation, the mineral bonding layer weber.dur 101 was first applied. Afterwards the Rogge team used weber.dur 120 as cement-based base coat render and the stone render weber.san 191 as top coat render. By using different colour shades, the new stone render surfaces could be visually integrated into the overall picture.

By the way, the joints were created individually into the surfaces way after completed rendering works to enhance the appearance of natural stone.
