Internal waterproofing of drinking and service water tanks

Without water, no life. For this reason, water associations, municipalities and independent utility companies make this valuable raw material available. The quality of water is of main importance. Many tanks are however not suitable for storage of water. A lot of drinking water and service water tanks in towns and municipalities show age-related defects. Their professional renovation sets high requirements for the skillness of companies, the preparation of substrate and the used building materials. Only mineral cement-based waterproofing products with all necessary tests in accordance with the national standards and approvals are allowed to be used in such building structures. Such products full fill the hygienic and waterproofing demands

Step by step


    1. Comply with the national and the European standards within the scope of renovation works for drinking water tanks and with EN 206.


    2. For the application of a mineral waterproofing mortar the substrate must be pre-pared by mechanical means. It must show a pull-off strength of 1.0 N/mm2.


    3. Grooves, particularly at the bottom part of the walls must be rounded in a radius of approx. 5 cm and filled with the watertight mortar weber.tec 933.


    4. In case of drinking water tanks apply 3 layers of the 1-comp. normal-setting water-proofing slurry weber.tec 930 with brush or flat trowel on the dull-moist substrate, after full hardening of weber.tec 933. The water head of drinking water tanks is limited to 15 meters.


    5. In case of service water tanks apply at least 2 layers of the 2-comp. reactive water-proofing slurry weber.tec Superflex D 2 with brush or flat trowel. The water head in service water tanks is limited to 10 meters. Full water load can occur after through-drying.
