Rough skin, soft core
New building Childcare center
The newly built "Gerda und Rolf Schopf" day care centre in Berlin-Spandau has 100 childcare places. The architects’ office Anderhalten Architekten in Berlin designed a U-shaped single-storey building on the wide, flat surface, which is surrounded by a large garden. It is directly accessible from all rooms. Spacious corridors in the interior areas offer space for wardrobes, at the same time they are suitable as a driving course.
For the shell, the architects chose a monolithic construction with rendered masonry of aerated concrete. Wooden windows and panelling of local softwoods harmonize with the characteristic facade render with broom texture. For this purpose, the company Levan, commissioned with the facade works, applied the mineral lightweight fine-grained top coat render weber.star 261 in a grain size of 1 mm in two layers. Whilst still fresh, it was textured with a broom. The pattern emphasizes the handcrafted application with horizontal, slightly irregular lines. The result is a filigree relief design.
The finish of the wall construction is a paint in a light olive shade. The silicone resin-based paint weber.ton 411 AquaBalance contains no biocidal film preservation, so that the children can safely give in to their urge to touch.
