Clariant Innovation Center
Design of an entrance hall with natural stones
In the autumn of 2013, the Clariant Innovation Center was opened in Frankfurt - an important research centre for the world's leading speciality chemicals company. Accordingly, the company building was to provide a prestigious welcome for employees and visitors.
After intensive consultation with HPP Architekten and GSI Steinböden GmbH & Co. KG, which was commissioned with the natural stonework, the client chose grey-yellow Jura limestones for the floor. The natural individuality of the natural stone flooring was to be additionally emphasized by the fact that none of the 79.5 x 79.5 cm large and 2 cm thick Jura slabs (with grinding degree C 120 and non-skid class of R9) was allowed to lie next to a similar one.
This required a very thoughtful processing by the GSI team. The natural stone slabs were laid on about 1,100 m² of floor and on some wall surfaces, each using the buttering-floating method. Another challenge was that the installed slabs were subject to mechanical loads due to rolling scaffolds at short notice.
