Measures in case of missing overbinding dimension

For masonries the necessary overbinding dimension (= smallest distance between the vertical butt joints of two superimposed stones) is 0.4 times the brick height, i.e. approx. 10 cm as a rule. When this dimension is not prevailing, it may lead to cracks in the render shell.

Simple & safe to the goal

  1. Application

    1. Fix a galvanized, welded wire mesh, like Distanet) tension-free over the corresponding areas into the masonry. Subsequently, the process is in accordance with cases 1 or 2.

  2.

    2. Case 1: apply a cement or a cement-lime lightweight underlay render (base coat), such as weber.dur 137 in 2 layers.

  3.

    3. While still fresh, insert the woven mesh weber.therm 310 in the upper third of the mortar layer.

  4.

    4. Case 2: apply a lightweight lime-cement underlay render (base coat), for ex. weber.dur 132 in 2 layers to avoid crack formation in the best way.

  5.

    5. After a waiting time of 14 days apply a reinforcement layer, for ex. consisting of the mortar weber.therm 300 and the woven mesh weber.therm 310.

  6.

    6. Depending on the type of underlay render / reinforcing mortar leave the render surface as required for the post-applied topcoat; for scratch renders, for ex. with a hard broom or a notched trowel after first stiffening.
