Execution of socket and perimeter areas in case of ETICS

Due to the generally higher mechanical and moisture-related loads, the building skirting and the earth-contacting area must be designed differently for ETICS. As in the facade, only harmonized products may be used here.

Simple & safe to the goal

  1. . The socket part is the area of the facade exposed to splash water (minimum height 30 cm). Perimeter insulation is the thermal insulation of areas in contact with the ground.

  2. . A norm-compliant waterproofing must be prevailing. The horizontal damp-proof barrier must be carried out approx. 30 cm above the final upper ground level.

  3. . If perimeter insulation boards are already installed, their bonding must be checked and they must be dowelled above the final upper ground level (see herebelow). Roughen the surface of the boards. A double-reinforced mortar layer is recommended.

  4. . The weber.therm perimeter insulation boards are bonded full-surface or with palm-sized dots (under upper ground level with dots) with bonding and reinforcing mortar, like weber.therm 300 or 301.

  5. . The bottom endpart of the socket system is done with the polystyrene perimeter insulation board weber.therm EPS 032 Sockel standard.

  6. . If a bitumen waterproofing is existing, at least 4 drive-in dowels weber.therm Schlagdübel are necessary. The bonding of boards is done afterward with the special bonding mortar weber.therm 370.

  7. . Apply a reinforcement layer of 5 - 7 mm thickness consisting of the bonding and reinforcing mortar weber.therm 300 and the woven mesh weber.therm 310. If higher stability is required, apply a second reinforcement layer after sufficient hardening of the 1st one.

  8. . After sufficient hardening, carry out a final decorative coating with the pre-said reinforcing mortar or the high-bonding strength lime-cement render weber.star 295 (with smooth texture finish).
Alternative: apply the universal primer weber.therm 403 and subsequently the coloured stone plaster/render weber.pas 434.

  9. . After drying the render build up, the silicate egalizing paint weber.ton 414 AquaBalance or the silicone resin paint weber.ton 411 AquaBalance.
Alternative: apply the universal primer weber.therm 403 and then the coloured stone render weber.pas 434.

  10. . It is also possible to glue ceramic brick slip with the special bonding mortar weber.therm 370 in the floating-buttering method onto the hardened reinforcement layer. In this case, fix the screw dowels weber.therm Schraubdübeln through the woven mesh as a rule.

  11. . The levelled socket system must be protected up to 5 cm above ground level with the 1-comp. flexible cement-based waterproofing slurry weber.dur 126. At least two coats of max. 1.5 mm thickness must be applied by using a ceiling brush. Respect a delay of 1 day is required between each layer. The maximum application thickness is 3.0 mm.

  12. . For the protection of the weber.therm socket system against mechanical damages a dimpled foil or a drainage mat like weber.sys 983 will be placed prior to the excavation backfilling. A gravel strip at least 30 cm wide is installed afterwards.

  13. . Alternative: a mineral building panel can be placed in the socket area for purpose of higher stability.

  14. . If the skirting is to be flush at the end, the skirting insulation boards must be 2 cm thinner. Otherwise, correspondingly thinner.

  15. . The mineral building panels (for ex. Aquapanel Outdoor or Blueclad) are fixed full-surface with the bonding and reinforcing mortar weber.therm 300 on the polystyrene perimeter insulation board weber.therm EPS 032 Sockel standard.

  16. . Use the miller weber.therm Fräser to obtain 4 cut-outs with a depth of approx. 5 cm per panel. The cut-outs should be located approx. 15 cm from each edge of the board.

  17. . The holes already drilled with the miller are used for the subsequent dowelling with the drive-in dowels weber.therm Schlagdübel.

  18. . Apply a reinforcement layer consisting of the bonding and reinforcing mortar weber.therm 300 and the woven mesh weber.therm 310 with a thickness of 7 mm.

  19. . After sufficient hardening, apply the reinforcing mortar or the high-bonding strength lime-cement render weber.star 295.

  20. . After drying the render system the silicate egalizing paint weber.ton 414 Aquabalance or the silicone resin paint, weber.ton 411 Aquabalance can be applied.
Alternative: it is also possible to glue ceramic brick slips with the special bonding mortar weber.therm 370 according to the floating-buttering method.

  21. . Such a socket build-up meets the highest requirements in terms of impact resistance and stability. It should always be carried out in this way if high stress is expected (e.g. in urban pedestrian areas, in schools, and kindergardens).
