What has to be observed for flat roof renovation with regard to substrate, details and priming?

Weber roof products are designed for the renovation and maintenance of bitumen and concrete roofs. The properties of the substrate, connections and details deserve special attention. Their condition and location of the building parts are of decisive importance for the success of a renovation and maintenance measure. Before starting a roof renovation, it is also necessary to check the structure of the whole construction in order to avoid later damage due to e.g. an excessive moisture content.

Simple & safe to the goal

  1. 1. Old bitumen roofing felts often show blisters caused by trapped air. If the blisters are already torn open, they must be opened and closed again after the moisture has been removed. Uncracked blisters that have not ruptured can be re-worked using a bitumen-based care and maintenance coating.

  2. 2. Cracks in old roofing membranes must be repaired in any case before top coats for renovation and maintenance of the roofing can be applied.

  3. 3. Connections to roof drains/roof penetrations such as skylight domes are also critical details. Here, the watertightness must be checked and, if necessary, a new waterproofing must be carried out before carrying out a maintenance measure.

  4. 4. Before decorative and maintenance coatings are applied onto corrugated fiber cement sheets, they must be thoroughly cleaned and freed from all adhesion-impairing components. This is the only way to ensure a strong bonding of the coatings.

  5. 5. Old roofing membranes must be primed after cleaning so that renovation coatings adhere well. Here the bitumen primer weber.tec 902.

  6. 6. Primers should always be applied by roller or brush to ensure a good dust binding and thus a good adhesion to the substrate.
