1. Why lightweight tile adhesives are setting new benchmarks

Everyday site work often involves heavy loads, tight schedules and physical strain. This is precisely the area in which our "Comfort Engineered" campaign comes into its own.

Lightweight tile adhesives are changing the way you work:

  • Less weight during transport

  • Reduced physical effort and less dust during mixing

  • Easier spreading and embedding of tiles

The result is noticeable – every single day. Less fatigue, greater control and a more efficient workflow.

When you are looking for the best tile adhesive today, it is no longer just about adhesion. It is about comfort, health and productivity.

3. Ergonomic working: less strain, greater efficiency

Heavy bags, frequent mixing and physically demanding application – for many, this is simply part of everyday site work. This is precisely the area in which our Comfort Engineered products excel.

They significantly reduce strain on site thanks to their exceptionally smooth application and up to 50% lower weight at the same surface coverage. At the same time, physical effort during installation has been proven to decrease by up to 15%*.

In practical terms, this means:

  • Less carrying

  • Less fatigue

  • Greater efficiency per working day

  • More energy after work

This is how we make ergonomic working a reality on site, and a genuine health factor in the long term. After all, modern construction is all about putting people at the heart of what we do.

4. Tile adhesive comparison – S1 vs S2 in detail

A well‑founded comparison of tile adhesives considers not only application and ergonomics, but also technical properties and applicable standards.

Both products meet the requirements of DIN EN 12004 and are suitable for standards‑compliant applications in accordance with DIN 18534 (bonded waterproofing systems) as well as DIN 18352.

What does this mean for your everyday work?

  • S1 adhesives (weber.xerm 854) are a reliable and cost-effective solution for many standard applications.

  • S2 adhesives(weber.xerm 843) provide the utmost reliability in terms of accommodating movement and loads in the substrate, even when used with large-format tiles.

So, when it comes to choosing the best tile adhesive, the key factor is how it will be used. For maximum performance and ease of installation, an S2 lightweight adhesive is the obvious choice.

5. How much tile adhesive do I need per m²?

The required quantity depends on the format of the tiles, the condition of the substrate and the size of the trowel notch.

Typical guideline values:

Small formats: approx. 2–3 kg/m²
Medium formats: approx. 3–5 kg/m²
Large formats: approx. 5–7 kg/m²

Our lightweight tile adhesives offer the same surface coverage as conventional 25 kg adhesives, but use significantly less material.

This means less carrying and mixing for you, and greater efficiency on site.

7. FAQs on building waterproofing and the webinar

They enable you to work more easily and quickly, while significantly reducing physical strain and maintaining consistently high performance.

These include standard installations, as well as complex applications such as fresh cement screeds and concrete, large-format tiles over underfloor heating and wet rooms in accordance with DIN 18534.

Yes. Both products comply with DIN EN 12004 and are suitable for applications in accordance with DIN 18352 and DIN 18534.

S2 adhesives are more highly polymer-modified, enabling them to absorb greater levels of movement and stress. This makes them safer and more reliable, particularly when working on critical substrates and in challenging conditions.
