Correct execution of a solid connection with a window or a door element

The design of render connections on windows and doors is becoming more and more complex. Increased demands on building tightness and thermal insulation require modified constructions on building openings, e.g. window sealing tapes and front-mounted window constructions.

Simple & safe to the goal

  1. Check window and door elements for force-fit installation (see national installation guidelines, for example, RAL in Germany).

  2. Trial bonding test

Prior to use of adhesive profiles, check if window frames are suitable for bonding. Photo documentation is recommended. For this purpose, clean in a concealed place with a dry and clean cloth (without detergent). The substrate must be even, dry and dust-free. Adhesion-impairing residues must be removed. The air temperature must be between +5 °C and +40 °C.

  3. Cut a short piece (approx. 10 cm) of the profile, remove the protective paper and stick the profile firmly on the frame. Wait for 10 minutes.

  4. Then pull the profile strongly away from the substrate.

  5. The sealing tape must adhere to the profile completely on one hand and to the substrate completely on the other (full-length foam break). This means that the substrate is suitable for bonding.

  6. If this is not the case, completely de-coupled render profiles with PUR sealing tape must be installed.

  7. Remove adhesion-impairing residues from window and door frames and rub dry.

  8. Cut the profiles to size with appropriate scissors and provide any necessary recesses. Tear the protective flap 5 cm at each profile end.

  9. For bonding the profile, pull off the protective tape of the PE sealing tape. Place the profile on the door or window element by pressing lightly. Afterwards, align the profile and press it firmly along its whole length.

  10. Pull off the paper cover of the protective flap. Press the on-site protective foil onto the adhesive tape of the protective flap. The protective foil should be at least 0.06 mm thick.

  11. Apply the render layers in line with the drip edges on the profile.

  12. After completion of all works, carefully peel off the on-site foil towards the front.

  13. Fold the protective flap forward once along its whole length, grasp it at the torn end (drawing 4) and pull it to the front away from the profile.

  14. If the window sill is not driving rainproof, provide a second sealing level with weber.therm Sol-Pad and the 2-comp. 2-comp. reactive waterproofing slurry weber.tec Superflex D 2. The window sills and the window sill heads are to be embedded by a joint sealing tape all around.

  15. After the application of the finishing render top coat, the aluminium window sill is installed with glue weber.therm ST-Polymer. Natural stone window sills are fixed with the 2-comp. waterproofing, system weber.xerm 844.

Profile without PUR-tape:

Notch the protective flap of the vertical profiles and glue the profile over its whole length. Cut the horizontal profile flush with the edge and fit it in. In the case of hinges simply cut in the protective flap and fold it over.

Profiles without PUR-tape:

If the required profile length is not available, 1 butt joint can be installed in the upper third of the building component. In this case, the profiles must be laid with butt joints (without overlapping).
The telescopic profiles are connected with overlapping in the butt joint area.

After their installation on the building component the profiles with a part of the woven mesh must be embedded without delay in the wet layer of reinforcing mortar and protected from the weather (e.g. wind, sun).

Profiles with PUR-tape:

Cut the profiles so as to obtain the desired miter angle. Thanks to the compressed PUR tape, the sealing is thus achieved in the corner area.

Profiles with PUR-tape:

If the required profile length is not available, 1 butt joint can be installed in the upper third of the component. In this case, the profiles must be laid with butt joints (without overlapping). The protruding PUR tape seals the butt joint area.
