Repair of cracked facades or joints with an ETICS

With ETICS, cracked facades can be rendered whenever cracks with width changes of up to 2.5 mm are to be expected. Due to the high de-coupling effect of the insulation boards, the crack movements are not transferred on to the render system. Also facades with joints, e.g panel buildings, can also be rendered without joints.

Simple & safe to the goal

  1. Check of substrate

    1. When renovating panelled facades, the stability of the weather shell must have been checked.

  2. 2. Remove any hollow parts and clean the underlay render with a high-pressure cleaner.

  3. 3. Apply the glass-fiber joint mat weber.therm Glasfaser-Fugenmatte over the crack.

  4. Systems

    4. Install an ETICS on the facade, for ex. weber.therm A 100 / B 100 with an insulation thickness > 60 mm. Either use mineral wool or EPS insulation boards.

  5. Application

    5. If the existing facade paint does not allow the adhesion of a bonding mortar, 70% of it must be removed. Afterwards, the insulation boards are to be additionally dowelled.

  6. 6. Apply a bonding and reinforcing mortar, for ex. weber.therm 300 in a thickness of 5 - 7 mm by hand or machine.

  7. 7. Insert the woven mesh weber.therm 310 wrinkle-free. It must lay in the upper half of the reinforcement layer.

  8. 8. The reinforcement layer must be roughened horizontally prior to application of a thick-layer mineral scratch topcoat render, for ex. weber.top 204 AquaBalance.

  9. 9. Depending on type of overlay render and weather conditions the reinforcement layer must be eventually pre-wetted or pre-treated with the universal primer weber.prim 403.

  10. 10. The overlay render can be applied by hand or machine.

  11. 11. Depending on type of overlay render texture or scratch its surface with an appropriate tool.
