Protection of basement waterproofing

Waterproofing products of building structures must do a lot. Watertightness, long-life expectancy, flexibility, and resistance to weather conditions – all these requirements must be fulfilled by these products. Waterproofing products on earth-contacting building structures must perform more – they must withstand the earth pressure. Not only the surface pressure, but also the impact pressure of sharp stones etc. Waterproofing layers must be protected against such loads, otherwise they will be hurt and be leaking. For combined boards with drainage and insulation functions can be glued with bitumen thick coatings, for ex. weber.tec Superflex 10. Alternatively, we recommend the use of the drainage mat weber.sys 983. All protective layers (rigid boards, drainage foils, protection foils) are first installed after full drying of the waterproofing layers.

Step by step


    1. Glue the insulation or protection boards with a PMBC applied dotwise son their backside in case of ground damp/non-pressure water (W1.-E) or full-surface in case of pressure water (W2.1.-E).


    2. Lay the protective boards tightly butt to each other. In case of fleece-covered foils pay attention that the fleece sides are properly overlapped.


    3. The protection of waterproofing is done all over the basement walls. Install the insulation boards from the basement bottom upwards. They must lay firmly on the protected forepart of concrete slab.


    4. Cut the drainage mat weber.sys 983 according to the requested dimensions and install in vertical direction. The gliding part is placed face to the wall. The fleece-backside is turned to the earth. Fix weber.sys 983 over the upper level of the waterproofing with the metal rail weber.sys 983 A.


    5. Carefully let overlap the fleece sides. At the bottom place the foil over the concrete slab forepart to the extent that a professional connection with the horizontal drainage can be done.


    6. Fix weber.sys 983 over the upper level of the water-proofing with the metal rail weber.sys 983 A. Afterwards the excavation can be filled by careful backfilling of the soil in several layers and compacting.
