Norm-compliant waterproofing of duct penetrations for ex. utility pipes

The waterproofing designs in the area of pipe penetrations, e.g. for electricity, water and gas utility pipes, place high demands on planners and contractors. In the case of penetrations, it is important that the installation parts (e.g. pipes, brackets, cables) that penetrate the waterproofing level, are firmly connected to the building part. They must be carefully integrated into the waterproofing layers on the walls. If thermal deformations due to transported materials in pipes can occur, penetrations must be sealed in such a way that a possibility of movement is created here. Depending on the waterproofing system, a flange collar is attached or an elastic connection is formed. The design is carried out taking into account the respective water load. If possible, penetrations should be planned above the assumed water level.

Simple & safe to the goal

  1. 1. In order to be able to apply the bitumen thick-layer coating on the pipe penetration, it must first be free of loose and/or and adhesion-impairing particles. The substrate must be lightly roughened and primed with the bitumen primer weber.tec 901.

  2. 2. After substrate preparation and drying of the primer, the bitumen coating is applied to around the pipe penetration, e.g with a tongue trowel. In case of ground damp and non-pressure water (W1- E), a polymer-modified bitumen thick coating (PMBC) is applied in groove form around the penetration. The pipe penetration is then integrated into the waterproofing of the wall surface.

  3. 3. Cross-section through an exterior wall with pipe penetration in case of ground damp/non-pressure water in case of renovation and new construction.

  4. 4. In new buildings, the installation of the fiber cement pipe sleeve (e.g. company Doyma) in masonry and concrete is possible. The water-impermeable fiber cement flange is fitted flush with the masonry. The adhesive flange must be at least 12 cm wide. This solution is also suitable for pressure water (W2.1-E).

  5. 5. Then the bitumen thick-layer coating is applied onto the flange with a glass fiber fabric insert between the first and the second layer. This is how it is integrated into the surface waterproofing of walls. The solution is also suitable for pressure water (W2.1-E).

  6. 6. After completion of the surface waterproofing, the service pipe is being waterproofed. This is done with a gasket (seal) insert between the service pipe and the sleeve pipe. Tightness is achieved by screwing the circumferential sealing ring (squeeze seal). The seal insert should be screwed on from the internal side of the building.

  7. 7. Schematic diagram of the Doyma pipe penetration system for the water load classes of ground damp/non-pressure water and pressure water. In the case of pressure water, 2 sealing packages are used to ensure full tightness.

  8. 8. For pipes for the supply of gas, electricity, water, etc. special multisection penetrations with sealing on both sides are suitable. Here, for ex. Doyma Quadra Secura Nova 1M (without gas). The external waterproofing in contact with the earth, e.g. a polymer-modified bitumen thick-layer coating, is already existing and thoroughly dried before installation. The earth-contacting flange collar as compression seal is connected to the existing waterproofing. In addition, it is waterproofed internally by means of a sealing insert. The solution is also suitable for pressure water (W2.1-E).

  9. For the renovation of existing pipelines, other Doyma systems are available. Within such systems the flange of the pipe sleeve is first glued with a butyl sealing tape onto the existing external waterproofing, e.g a bitumen coating (PMBC) or a flexible, polymer-modified thick-layer waterproofing coating (FDP) and then screwed. The pipeline is waterproofed by using the sealing package between the sleeve pipe and the pipeline. This solution is suitable for ground damp and non-pressure water (W1-E).

  10. In case of pressure water, a fixed and loose flange construction can be used as an alternative to the adhesive flange with sealing package (here for ex. Doyma Curaflex 7006 T) for renovation works with existing pipelines (in accordance with DIN 18533).
