Waterproofing of concrete basement walls

For a performing waterproofing of in-situ concrete or prefabricated concrete elements the waterproofing between the concrete elements as well as between concrete slab and concrete elements is most important. Two-component polymer-modified bitumen thick coatings (PMBC) have proven being performing in this case. The application of bitumen on the whole surface of concrete basements is particularly economical, since the partly high density of steel reinforcement of concrete walls can be reduced by the waterproofing system. In this case the waterproofing function is fully taken over by the bitumen thick coatings (PMBC).

Step by step

  1.  

    1. Remove all adhesion-impairing particles, for ex. cement laitance from the forepart of concrete slab with a diamond rotative disc.

  2.  

    2. Fill the groove area between the forepart of concrete slab and the pre-fabricated concrete wall elements with the watertight mortar weber.tec 933 with the preformed trowel "big size" weber.sys Hohlkehlenschlitten in a radius of approx. 5 cm along the angle of the groove area. weber.tec 933 can also be used for closing working joints and butt joints of prefa-bricated concrete elements.

  3.  

    3. Use the bitumen primer weber.tec 901 diluted 1 : 1 with water on the joints areas of the prepared prefabricated concrete elements.

  4.  

    4. Apply the first layer of the 2-comp. lightweight bitumen waterproofing thick coating weber.tec Superflex 10 on the groove area. The bitumen is applied at least 15 cm downwards on the forepart of concrete slab.

  5.  

    5. Lay the woven glass fiber mesh weber.sys 981 between each layer of weber.tec Superflex 10.

  6.  

    6. Apply the second layer weber.tec Superflex 10 over weber.sys 981.

  7.  

    7. Apply the first layer of weber.tec Superflex 10 on the vertical butt joint areas.

  8.  

    8. Lay a strip of weber.sys 981 between each layer of weber.tec Superflex 10 on the vertical butt joint areas.

  9.  

    9. Apply the second layer weber.tec Superflex 10 over weber.sys 981.

  10.  

    10. On main surfaces use the bitumen primer weber.tec 901 diluted 1 : 1 with water on the concrete surface.

  11.  

    11. Apply a thin scratch layer and afterwards the first layer weber.tec Superflex 10 with insertion of the mesh weber.sys 981.

  12.  

    12. Apply the second layer weber.tec Superflex 10 over weber.sys 981.

  13.  

    13. Lay the drainage mat weber.sys 983 over the thorough- ly dried water-proofing layers and fix it with the metal rail weber.sys 983 A at the upper side of the bitumen layer.
