Installation of an electric underfloor heating under ceramic tiles

The functionality of ceramic coverings can be easily upgraded by installing electric underfloor heating, both in renovations and in new buildings. A connection to the building's own heating system is not necessary. The combination of an electric underfloor heating system with a ceramic surface creates resistant and visually appealing floor surfaces that provide a pleasant living climate.

Simple & safe to the goal

  1. Substrate preparation

Apply the primer weber.prim 801 on absorbent substrates or the primer weber.prim 803 on non-absorbent substrates. The quick-drying multi-use primer weber.prim 804 can also be used for pre-treatment of all substrates.

  2. Application– Case 1

    1. Apply the quick-setting and flexible flow-grade tile adhesive weber.xerm 860 F on the prepared substrate.

  3. 2. Lay the heating mats into the fresh adhesive bed.

  4. 3. Afterwards, the embedded heating mats and the adjacent floor surfaces are covered with weber.xerm 860 F to create a levelled substrate for the following tile fixing.

  5. 4. After hardening the tile adhesive, the ceramic floor tiles can be fixed with weber.xerm 860 F.

  6. Application– Case 2

    1. If necessary, the heating mats can be fixed with palm-sized dots of a quick-setting tile adhesive, for ex. weber.xerm 860 F.

  7. 2. After hardening the tile adhesive, the heating mats and the adjacent areas can be levelled with a floor self-levelling compound, such as weber.plan 813-25.

  8. Fixing of ceramic tiles

    1. After the levelling layer has dried, apply a contact layer, such as weber.xerm 860 F. Without delay, comb down a uniform adhesive bed with the notched trowel at an angle of 45° - 60°.

  9. 2. Before a skin starts to form (check the tackiness of combed-down tile adhesive with the finger) slide the tiles into the fresh mortar bed with a slight twisting motion and press down.

  10. Grouting

    1. After hardening the tile adhesive, grout the joints between the ceramic tiles with for ex. the flexible grout weber.fug 877.

  11. 2. Connection and movement joints must be closed with the elastic silicone joint sealant weber.fug 880 or weber.fug 881. In the case of natural stones, use the specific sealant weber.fug 883. For better bonding, use the primer weber.fug 884 (absorbent joint sides) or weber.fug 885 (non-absorbent joint sides).
