Safe laying of natural stones

Composite (bonded) waterproofing, combined with a thin-bed installation of ceramic coverings, has proven itself for years as a safe construction in outdoor areas. However, if thick natural stones are used, a thicker mortar bed is required and the execution of a bonded waterproofing is not possible. But in the thicker mortar bed, there would be an accumulation of penetrating moisture and related frost and efflorescence damage. The only safe construction option here is to drain off the penetrating water, using suitable drainage mortar and drainage layers. The combination of the drainage mortar weber.xerm 869 with a drainage mat, e.g. Gutjahr Aquadrän EK, ensures optimum drainage of the mortar bed through precise drainage of the penetrating water.

Simple & safe to the goal

  1. Substrate preparation

    1. For providing a bonded sloping screed, apply the quick-setting screed mortar weber.plan 816 to the previously applied fresh bonding slurry of weber.plan 816 and the polymer dispersion weber.ad 785.

  2. 2. Use the primer weber.prim 801 on absorbent substrates.

  3. 3. In corners, expansion joints, butt joints and movement joints, first insert all the necessary components of the sealing system weber.tec 828 (such as sealing tape as well as inner and outer corners) into the freshly applied layer of the highly flexible 2-comp. waterproofing and tile adhesive weber.xerm 844.

  4. 4. The screed with slope is waterproofed with weber.xerm 844 in 2 layers.

  5. 5. For improving the horizontal drainage performance, we recommend installing a drainage mat, like for ex. Gutjahr Aquadrain EK, lose on the dry waterproofing layer.

  6. Application

    1. weber.xerm 869 is applied in a thickness of at least 5 cm on top of the sloped screed. Rule level with levelling beams and knock slightly by using a rubber mallet.

  7. 2. The fixing of the natural stones is done "wet-in-wet" on the fresh drainage mortar. Previously, the trass-bearing bonding layer weber.xerm 867 is applied on the backside of the natural stones.

  8. Grouting

    1. The trass grout for natural stones weber.fug 871 is also suitable for grouting the wide joints between polygonal slabs (porphyry, granite, basalt and sandstones).

  9. 2. Connection and movement joints must be closed with the elastic silicone joint sealant weber.fug 880 or weber.fug 881. In the case of natural stones, use the specific sealant weber.fug 883. For better bonding, use the primer weber.fug 884 (absorbent joint sides) or weber.fug 885 (non-absorbent joint sides).
