Simple and quick procedure for bathroom renovation

The modern bathroom combines functionality and aesthetics in individually designed rooms. The use of appropriate installation materials makes it possible to rationally transform old wet rooms into newly designed oases of well-being. In many cases, the old tiling does not have to be removed but can be reworked with new, modern tiling. This saves time and reduces dust pollution and construction rubble.

Simple & safe to the goal

  1. Substrate preparation

    1. Any adhesion-impairing contaminants on the surface of the old tiling must be carefully removed. Greasy and oily substances must be removed with a grease-dissolving cleaner.

  2. 2. Eventually a levelling above the old tiling may be necessary. This can be done with the quick-setting levelling and repair mortar weber.plan 818. The wall tiles can be fixed after only 5 hours.

  3. 3. Also, design elements can also be implemented with the lightweight multi-use tilebackerweber.sys 834, which are glued for ex. with the multi-use flexible tile adhesive weber.xerm 861.

  4. Application

    1. The transitions between the levelled areas and those with old ceramic tiles must be covered with a reinforcement layer, e.g. consisting of weber.xerm 861 and the woven glass fiber mesh for tile adhesives and floor levelling compounds weber.sys 835.

  5. 2. First apply the bonding primer for non-absorbent substrates weber.prim 803.

  6. 3. Wall surfaces that are subject to humidity load must be waterproofed either with the 2-comp. waterproofing and tile adhesive weber.xerm 844 or the liquid waterproofing foil weber.tec 822 (in 2 operations) in combination with the sealing tapes and sleeves belonging to the sealing system weber.tec 828.

  7. 4. After the levelling layer has dried, apply a contact layer, such as weber.xerm 861. Without delay, comb down a uniform adhesive bed with the notched trowel at an angle of 45° - 60°.

  8. 5. Before a skin starts to form (check the tackiness of combed-down tile adhesive with the finger) slide the tiles into the fresh mortar bed with a slight twisting motion and press down.

  9. Application on floors

    1. Old cement screeds can, if necessary, be levelled with e.g. the floor self-levelling compound weber.plan 813-25. These surfaces are primed beforehand with weber.prim 801.

  10. 2. After the levelling layer has dried, apply a contact layer, such as weber.xerm 861. Without delay, comb down a uniform adhesive bed with the notched trowel at an angle of 45° - 60°.

  11. 3. Before a skin starts to form (check the tackiness of combed-down tile adhesive with the finger) slide the tiles into the fresh mortar bed with a slight twisting motion and press down.

  12. Grouting

    1. After hardening the tile adhesive, grout the whole covering (wall and floor) with the water- and dirt-repellent narrow Longlife premium grout weber.fug 875 BlueComfort. This grout is characterized by high resistance to sanitary cleaners.

  13. 2. Connection and movement joints must be closed with the elastic silicone joint sealant weber.fug 880 or weber.fug 881. In the case of natural stones, use the specific sealant weber.fug 883. For better bonding, use the primer weber.fug 884 (absorbent joint sides) or weber.fug 885 (non-absorbent joint sides).
