Basically, a durably dry building structure also includes a reliable waterproofing of the facade socket part.

Socket waterproofing for professionals
The socket part is highly stressed by temperature fluctuations, splash water, salts and freeze/thaw cycles, as well as changing wet/dry load by driving rain, solar radiation, etc. It is crucial to know how the facade will be built and where the upper ground level will be located later in order to obtain a homogeneous, full-length and accurate waterproofing from the basement to the socket part.
If the socket is part of an ETICS, we recommend the waterproofing systems with cement-based flexible waterproofing slurries or with reactive waterproofing coatings, such as weber.tec Superflex D 2 or D 24 (by the German standard DIN 18533 "Waterproofing of Ground-contacting Building Structures").
Facades with exposed masonry are 2-shell constructions. Here, we also recommend seamless waterproofing with cement-based flexible waterproofing slurries or with weber.tec Superflex D 24.
Seamless waterproofing
From the roof up to the basement
With weber.tec Superflex D 24, you can perform the waterproofing full-length without any seam from the basement concrete slab up to the socket parts of the facade with just one product. The same applies to single-shell wall structures made of highly heat-insulating stones with outer render shells, for example, thermal insulation render.
The socket parts of facades are given the highest attention with regard to the application of the waterproofing in the German standard for waterproofing DIN 18533 and in the "Guideline for Planning and Execution of Water-proofing of Ground-contacting Building Structures with Flexible Polymer-Modified Thick-Layer Waterproofing Coatings (FDP)". This depends not only on the high load but also on the many design versions. On the one hand through the different wall structures, such as the trend construction "timber frame construction", on the other hand by building separation joints to be included in the waterproofing level, as well as in particular the connection to floor-to-ceiling windows.

Socket part: 2-shell construction

With facing masonry and intermediate waterproofing membrane
Facades with exposed masonry (facing brickworks) are a 2-shell construction.
The top end of the intermediate membrane (so-called "Z-spacer") is embedded horizontally in the back-up wall shell so that the membrane serves as a cross-sectional seal in both the back-up and front wall shells. In this case, we recommend using weber.tec Superflex D 24 for full-length waterproofing. The transition area from the facing shell to the rear masonry is carried out by connecting the pre-said material to the membrane. The waterproofing is carried up on the rear masonry 30 cm above ground level.

In case of socket thermal insulation
In the case of sockets with an external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) we recommend carrying out the waterproofing with the flexible polymer-modified thick coating weber.tec Superflex D 24.
weber.tec Superflex D 24 is applied end-to-end from the concrete slab up to the socket part without any change of product. Also, the bonding of the socket insulation boards is done with flexible polymer-modified waterproofing coatings (FPD). The socket render system is applied to the socket insulation.

Timber constructions

With ETICS
The modern building method with timber frames consists of a planked framework and is used very often, for ex. in the prefabricated house industry.
The professionally correct waterproofing of the timber socket, for ex. with weber.tec Superflex D 24 is a prerequisite for reliable and long-term damp protection.

In case of 2-shell construction
The careful waterproofing of floor-to-ceiling windows with weber.tec Superflex D24 and the watertight foil weber.tec 982 SK as well as the professional execution of the transition areas with the waterproofing layer on the socket are decisive for the durability.

In case of end-to-end basement concrete floor slab
Building separation joints within the scope of waterproofing works are a challenge for planners and contractors.
The waterproofing of such joints should always occur under consideration of the specific class of water load (DIN 18533).
